Chief Executive Officer
The Norfolk General Hospital Foundation seeks an accomplished, thoughtful, and strategic leader. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the alignment of strategy, planning, evaluation, policy development, communications, fiscal management, and personnel to ensure the achievement of Foundation goals and outcomes. The incoming Chief Executive Officer will ensure a Foundation culture of integrity, accountability, responsibility and results and will have a passion for rural healthcare. This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing, charismatic and visionary executive.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Foundation Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer of the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation is the senior leader responsible for driving the Foundation’s mission, vision, and strategic growth. The CEO will be a dynamic fundraiser and community leader with proven success in cultivating transformational gifts, building strong donor relationships, and inspiring broad community support. This entails the development and maintenance of ongoing fund development programs of an aggressive nature, and includes fostering public awareness of the Foundation. The incumbent will work to promote the fundraising goals of the Hospital to patients, members of the public and the larger community. The Chief Executive Officer will inspire donors and stewarding key relationships with donors. The individual will lead successful fundraising strategies as well as identify new and diverse revenue streams.
The ideal candidate is experienced in major gifts, giving circles, legacy giving, and event-based fundraising, while also deeply community-minded and skilled at building meaningful connections. Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Foundation.
Build, nurture, and steward strong relationships with major gift donors, planned giving donors, and giving circle participants.
Develop and lead innovative fundraising strategies that align with the Hospital’s priorities and the Foundation’s goals.
Oversee the planning and execution of signature events, marketing campaigns, and sponsorship initiatives to maximize revenue and community engagement.
Ensure the effective stewardship of sponsors and event partners, building long-term mutually beneficial relationships.
Serve as the chief ambassador for the Foundation within the community, fostering strong relationships with individuals, corporations, service clubs, and community partners.
Partner with the Board of Directors to set ambitious fundraising goals and ensure accountability in meeting them.
Liaise with the NGH CEO and management team to ensure a strong partnership between the two organizations and to understand the capital fund raising requirements of the hospital
Inspire, coach, and manage a dedicated staff team to achieve high performance and professional growth.
Ensure sound financial management, transparency, and accountability.
Oversee marketing, communications, and donor recognition programs that demonstrate impact and inspire giving.
Support the operational management while developing standard operating procedures and effective ways to store and communicate data
Prepares and monitors policies and procedures, financial goals and program activities for the Foundation, and attends meetings and reports regularly to the Foundation Board on same. Attends Board Committee meetings.
Plans and advises the Foundation Board of Directors in areas of policy, administration, fundraising, public relations and recruiting needs for the Board.
Participates with the Board of Directors in achievement of the Foundation’s Vision and Strategic Plan, directing and overseeing short and long term goals.
Endeavors to diversify funding sources and expand the scope of Foundation operations, (i.e. annual fund development program, special mailings, sponsorship programs, planned giving, etc.) as the Foundation’s needs and activities mature.
Cultivates relationships with key donors, and ensures that donor recognition programs are effective.
Establishes, develops and maintains communication and appropriate relationships
Identifies, cultivates and recruits key volunteer leadership candidates for the Foundation Board.
Ensures the timely and targeted communication of the significant accomplishments of the Foundation through public media and other communication vehicles.
Assess the current development program to ensure achievement of Foundation revenue goals in support of Norfolk General Hospital mission and capital needs
Set goals, objectives and plans to implement strategies for cultivation and solicitation that will lead to closing gifts
Requirements
Position Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years’ fundraising experience, preferably in a healthcare setting, with a demonstrated ability to develop new relationships and advance existing ones
Post-Secondary Degree and/or Certificate in Fundraising Management
CFRE credential
Proficient in Raiser’s Edge Software
Proven track record in fundraising, with significant experience in major gifts, legacy giving, and community-based fundraising initiatives.
Demonstrated success in leading sponsorship programs, events, and marketing campaigns that generate strong revenue and visibility.
Experience in building and sustaining giving circles or similar collective philanthropy models.
Experience with at least one successful capital campaign that met or exceeded goal
Demonstrates a high level of knowledge of fundraising initiatives
Familiarity with philanthropy in rural and smaller centres
Strong leadership and management skills with experience in inspiring teams and working effectively with Boards of Directors.
Exceptional relationship-building skills and presence within the community; a natural connector and collaborator.
Strategic thinker with the ability to set and achieve ambitious goals.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to inspire donors and stakeholders.
Understanding of the healthcare or not-for-profit sector is an asset.
Strong financial acumen as it relates to non-profit organizations, effective budget management, mindful cost control, and financial reporting
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents including, but not limited to, staff, leaders, medical staff, patients and the community
Proficient with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

The Norfolk General Hospital Foundation supports Norfolk General Hospital (NGH), a rural community hospital in the town of Simcoe, southwestern Ontario. Norfolk General Hospital provides exceptional healthcare to a municipality of approximately 64,000 people. Our area of focus provides a continuum of service throughout the life span of the people we serve including Emergency, Critical Care, Obstetrics, Medicine, Surgery, and Complex Continuing Care. Employing approximately over 700 highly skilled and dedicated employees, Norfolk General Hospital is a full service, 120-bed hospital with 24/7 on-call coverage of Specialists in Surgery, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics as well as on-site 24-hour per day medical coverage.
