Occupational Therapist – Hand Therapy Specialist 
Location: Barbour Plastic Surgery / Northern Virginia Hand and Nerve 
About Us 
Barbour Plastic Surgery, in partnership with Northern Virginia Hand and Nerve, provides advanced care in plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgery. With the recent expansion into specialized hand and nerve treatment, we are seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist with expertise in Hand Therapy to join our growing, patient-centered team. 
Position Summary 
The Occupational Therapist will evaluate, design, and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with injuries or conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, and upper extremities. The therapist will play a vital role in restoring function, reducing pain, fabricating custom splints/orthoses, and supporting patients in regaining independence in daily activities. 
 
This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced hand therapists and motivated OTs looking to advance their expertise and pursue Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credentials. 
Key Responsibilities 
Conduct comprehensive evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans for hand and upper extremity patients. 
Provide direct patient care, including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, modalities, and patient education. 
Fabricate, fit, and adjust custom orthoses/splints as appropriate. 
Document care plans, treatments, progress, and outcomes in accordance with state, federal, and insurance guidelines. 
Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. 
Supervise and mentor therapy assistants, aides, and students as appropriate. 
Stay current with evidence-based practice, participate in continuing education, and maintain licensure requirements. 
Contribute to clinic operations, team communication, and quality improvement initiatives. 
Qualifications 
Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program (Master’s or higher preferred). 
Current and valid Occupational Therapy license in Virginia (or eligibility to obtain). 
CPR/BLS certification required. 
Experience with upper extremity rehabilitation and custom splinting strongly preferred. 
Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential is a plus, but not required.  CHT expected to be successfully completed within the first calendar year of employment.    
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. 
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. 
Physical Requirements 
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, and use of hands. 
Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 pounds with appropriate body mechanics. 
Comfortable working in a clinical environment with exposure to patients, medical equipment, and related conditions.
