Description
The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine is conducting a search for the leadership role as Division Chief of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. It is a critically important appointment for a physician executive committed to gynecologic oncology.
This is an exceptional opportunity to develop, implement, and grow gynecologic oncology services to support the clinical, educational, and research missions of the School. The successful candidate will have significant clinical expertise, academic accomplishments, and research activities. The position will hold the faculty rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
With collaborators in the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Chief will join a team dedicated to providing leading-edge care and conducting original research for the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. Through Massey, multiple services are available for physicians conducting clinical research and trials, including regulatory support, protocol writing, project management, biospecimen processing, and collaborative networking with laboratory-based and population scientists.
The Gynecologic Oncology Division was recently recognized as a "High Performing" adult specialty by U.S. News & World Report. In collaboration with VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, the Division of Gynecologic Oncology is dedicated to the patient-centric care of women with and at risk for cancers of the reproductive tract, including uterine, ovarian, cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and trophoblastic. The Division’s multi-disciplinary team includes medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, pathology, cancer genetics, and radiology. It is committed to bringing the most current evidence-based treatments to the people of Central Virginia, while collaborating nationally and internationally to develop tomorrow’s treatments through clinical trials of novel therapeutics and surgical innovation. Over the course of the four-year program, OB/GYN residents at VCU spend eight months on gynecologic oncology rotations, with the option of additional exposure during the third-year elective. Residents gain experience and knowledge in gynecologic malignancies through myriad learning opportunities.
VCU’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is the only academic OB/GYN department in Central Virginia and is the regional destination for clinician education and subspecialty care. Its collaborative and supportive work environment fosters the development of caring, resilient, hardworking physicians who provide compassionate care and evidence-based practice.
