The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) seeks a full-time Division Chief and Medical Director of Breast Imaging — a senior academic leader to oversee all clinical operations, education, research, and faculty development across a thriving, well-resourced breast imaging program on the Gulf Coast.
A Program Built for Academic Excellence
Four dedicated breast imaging clinics across the coastal Galveston corridor — League City and Galveston campuses are both designated ACR Centers of Excellence in Breast Imaging; satellite clinics in Angleton and Clear Lake are planned for growth
Six fellowship-trained breast imaging radiologists with no general radiology duties and no after-hours call — a team fully focused on the subspecialty
Two breast imaging fellowship positions and 8 radiology residents per year — a meaningful pipeline for mentorship and educational scholarship
State-of-the-art technology: new digital mammography, tomosynthesis, and contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) units, plus a mobile breast imaging van extending access to underserved communities
Academic appointments tailored to candidates with interests in research, scholarship, or program leadership
A large, diverse patient population and proximity to the Texas Medical Center — the world's largest medical complex — supporting clinical trials, outcomes research, and interdisciplinary collaboration
UTMB actively supports foreign medical graduates in obtaining ABR certification
Clinical Scope Candidates should have fellowship training and comprehensive expertise across the full spectrum of breast imaging and procedures: tomosynthesis, diagnostic ultrasound, breast MRI, US-guided, stereotactic/tomosynthesis-guided, and MRI-guided biopsies, & pre-surgical localizations. Experience with contrast-enhanced mammography and cryoablation is desired.
Candidate Requirements
MD, DO, or equivalent degree
Board Certification or Eligibility by the American Board of Radiology
Ability to obtain an unrestricted Texas Medical License
