Clearpoint Health Network Inc. is recruiting for Permanent Full-time Registered Nurses - Operating Room. Specialties include Orthopedics, Plastics, Bariatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Urology and others as required.

Position Summary

As a Registered Nurse you are responsible for providing direct patient care using the nursing process through the assessment, planning, implementation and on-going evaluation of patient needs. The RN will act in accordance to ORNAC standards and scope of practice pertaining to the peri-operative patient and in accordance with facility policy and procedure. The RN must possess the skills, knowledge and experience to assess, treat and teach patients undergoing a variety and combination of operative procedures. The RN must demonstrate a professional and caring approach in dealing with clients, co-workers and supervisors. Possesses critical thinking and assessment skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing appropriate assessments and care of the peri-operative patient, including but not limited to:
    • Medications
    • Fluid balance and IV therapy
    • Venipuncture
    • Respiratory status and O2 therapy
    • Neurological status
    • 12 lead ECG – performance and interpretation
    • Wound care
    • Vital sign monitoring and recognition of the need for intervention
    • Resuscitation, defibrillation and response to Malignant Hyperthermia and other emergent situations.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of changes or updates in technology and techniques
  • Utilizing all data to formulate individualized care and plans for transfer to the post-anaesthetic recovery room
  • Setting priorities in planning care and implementing the medical treatment plan as determined by the physician
  • Assuming duties and responsibilities as delegated by the OR Nurse Manager or designate
  • Scrub and circulating responsibilities

Minimum Requirements

  • RN with current Certificate of Registration issued by the College of provincial jurisdiction (eg. Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC)
  • Operating Room certification from an accredited college program– Certificate required
  • Current BCLS certification is required
  • Proven focus to provide excellent patient care, in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary team of care providers, with emphasis on assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health


  • 2-4 years' recent experience in an acute care setting in the Surgical Suite / Ambulatory environment that includes and not limited to assisting, scrubbing /circulating and /or /providing retraction / abdominal thrust for procedures of the operating room, and ambulatory services, as well as services of endoscopy, urology and minor surgery – required
  • Ability to work independently within the Surgical /Ambulatory services environment to maintain patient flow
  • Demonstrated knowledge of surgical / ambulatory procedures (including set up) and the continuum of care for the surgical patient that includes the pre-intra-post surgery patient experience
  • Must be capable to set up and care for minor and major surgery procedures and anticipate the needs of patients and physicians
  • Proven motivation to pursue educational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team
  • Implement plan of care including independent and interdependent nursing functions
  • Assessing and understanding the unique needs of the surgical patient
  • Strong proficiency and willingness to work at the full scope of practice
