- Full-Time Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist | Weekdays Only | Long Island
Description
The Role (For People Who Actually Like C-L Work)
This is a full-time Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry position for psychiatrists who enjoy diagnostic puzzles, medical complexity, and explaining—politely—that delirium is not a personality disorder.
You’ll join a respected Long Island health system providing consult services across the Emergency Department and medical/surgical floors, with a structure that supports thoughtful consults instead of “just-clear-them” pressure.
Schedule:
- Monday–Friday, daytime hours
- No required call
- Optional extra shifts available (nights, weekends, holidays) if you want them — not because you’re forced or bribed with pizza (unless that works...)
The Clinical Reality (Better Than You’re Expecting)
This is a true inpatient consult service, not a dumping ground.
- Consults across ED and medicine floors
- Average daily volume: approximately 4–10 consults
- Time to actually assess, document, and communicate recommendations without sprinting
You’ll work alongside:
- Two other fellowship-trained C-L Psychiatrists
- A dedicated PA who understands consult psychiatry is not just “PRN Ativan”
It’s collaborative, medically integrated, and refreshingly sane.
Why this may work for you:
- Weekday-only core schedule
- No mandatory call
- Predictable consult volume
- Strong peer support (you’re not “the only psych in the building”)
- Optional extra shifts for those who like flexibility — or extra income
- This is C-L psychiatry for clinicians who want to practice at the top of their training without burning out or burning bridges with medicine teams.
