Description
Ophthalmologist — Cataract & Refractive Surgery
Cohen Eye Institute, a high-volume, premium-focused cataract and refractive practice led by Dr. Ilan Cohen, a high-volume cataract surgeon, is seeking a full-time or part-time ophthalmologist for its New Jersey office. This is a surgically oriented role built around a robust premium IOL and refractive caseload, with direct mentorship from a surgeon who has performed tens of thousands of procedures over 25-plus years.
The position is ideal for a surgeon who wants meaningful premium surgical volume, advanced technology, and an accelerated path to refining their craft, without the overhead of running clinic full time. We are willing to pay above-market rates for the right candidate.
SCHEDULE
Approximately one day per week of clinic time
One to two days per month of surgery
Start date: as soon as possible
Flexible structure that suits a surgeon balancing another site, family, or a second practice location
THE OFFICE & SUPPORT
The New Jersey office is purpose-built for efficient, high-volume surgical and clinical care:
Seven exam lanes
State-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment
Outstanding technician and scribe support, allowing the surgeon to focus on patient care and the operating room
SCOPE OF PRACTICE
The role is primarily surgical. Two full-time optometrists in the New Jersey office manage the bulk of routine and medical eye care, so the incoming surgeon can concentrate on the operating room. A small percentage of medical ophthalmology cases may arise and would be handled as needed.
Surgical Caseload
Cataract surgery as the core of the role, with roughly a 90 percent conversion to premium intraocular lenses
Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery
LASIK
EVO ICL, for surgeons who wish to perform it
MENTORSHIP & GROWTH
Dr. Cohen will personally mentor the right candidate toward advancing their surgical skills, including premium IOL selection and candidacy, centration technique, femtosecond integration, and refractive decision-making. This is a rare opportunity to build a premium surgical skill set alongside an experienced mentor while carrying a real, high-quality caseload from the outset.
COMPENSATION
Above-market compensation for the right candidate, commensurate with experience and surgical ability. Specific structure is negotiable and will be discussed with qualified applicants.
HOW TO APPLY
Qualified candidates should submit a CV and a brief note of interest. All inquiries will be handled confidentially. Contact: [email protected]
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
MD or DO with completed ophthalmology residency
Board-certified or board-eligible in ophthalmology
Active New Jersey medical license, or eligibility to obtain one promptly
Cataract and refractive fellowship training is welcomed but not required; we will consider strong candidates with or without fellowship
A demonstrated commitment to surgical excellence, patient-centered care, and continued learning
