Description
Join a thriving private radiation oncology practice in beautiful Downeast Maine!
Northeast Radiation Oncology is a group of four radiation oncologists. We are looking for a full-time, permanent physician interested in providing team-oriented, excellent and compassionate care to our patients.
We are a private group, and this is a partnership-track position.
We are affiliated with Northern Light-Eastern Maine Medical Center, a tertiary medical center and the second largest medical system in the state, serving a population of approximately 450,000. The main hospital campus is in Bangor, and the Lafayette Family Cancer Institute, where we practice, is located a few miles away in the sister city of Brewer.
The cancer center is a comprehensive state-of-the-art facility housing radiation oncology, medical oncology, pediatric oncology, surgical oncology, palliative care, mental health, nutrition, and physical therapy clinics. We also host services in social work, patient advocacy, pharmacy, laboratory, and cancer registry. We host nuclear medicine / PET/CT on-site.
We attend several tumor boards (general, thoracic, breast, GU) per week. We have excellent working relationships with the full range of other professionals involved in cancer care. Our program is a member of the Dana-Farber Cancer Care Collaborative, and we have a robust clinical trials program.
We provide all radiation oncology services at this one site. We do not staff any satellite facilities, so there is no need to travel or to provide coverage away from home.
Radiation Oncology Equipment, Services and Team
We have a large-bore Siemens CT Simulator, along with three Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, equipped with ExacTrac, CBCT, and KVKV imaging, providing full IGRT capability. Active motion management capability is provided with VisionRT.
We provide a full-spectrum of radiation oncology services. Our SBRT and SRS programs are the longest-running in the state and are very busy. We provide 3DCRT, IMRT/VMAT, electron therapy, HDR brachytherapy, and radiopharmaceutical services.
We utilize the RayStation treatment planning system. Elekta MOSAIQ is our practice management system / electronic medical record. We utilize the MOSAIQ Voice speech recognition and dictation system to streamline and automate much of our daily clinic workflow.
We are assisted by four full-time physicists, four dosimetrists, 12 radiation therapists, and a number of nurses, medical assistants, and clerical professionals. We are a large team, and we take great care of our patients and of each other.
The Area
Located on the Penobscot River, the sister cities of Bangor/Brewer are a quintessential New England small city pair, and serve as the financial, commercial, and healthcare hub of midcoast and northern Maine. Bangor and surrounding towns (including the University of Maine’s flagship campus in Orono) offer excellent educational, cultural and recreational opportunities. We have a very strong sense of community and a strong sense of place. It is a great area to raise a family. The 6000-seat Cross Center is a multi-purpose arena and convention center that hosts concerts, sporting events, festivals, broadway shows, and expositions year-round. The state-of-the-art Maine Savings Amphitheater partners with the Waterfront Concerts series and hosts a great many large concerts and festivals from spring through fall, drawing up to 16,500 spectators from New England and maritime Canada regularly.
If you like outdoor sports and activities, Maine is a gem, with endless opportunities for hiking, biking, camping, hunting, swimming, boating, skiing, skating, snowmobiling, etc. Bangor offers very easy access to the coast, mountains, and lakes.
